I'm heading to Bass Pro this weekend to buy new waders and boots, any suggestions on brands? I'm eyeballing a nice pair of Simms for 199 so far but any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

Simms are good, what model are they I remember back I got the L2's for that price. Save money where ever you can.
I would say bring your business to the smaller stores and keep them open, they always have deals in there as well.
I will never shop in Bass Pro again customer service is terrible.

Agreed !! For the $5 or $10 that you save , it's just not worth the aggravation !! IMO
The local shop has deals and has the stream reports , knows who you are and appreciates your business . The more you buy from them .... the better the deals !!
Never owned a Simms product yet .... so can't comment . But I am in need of new waders and boots too . I'm looking at Guideline and Scierra options currently . Not an easy choice .....

The only reason I hit the big store is one stop shopping, I need to buy a few tents, some hiking boots, waders, propane etc. so its alot easier for me. I usually deal with a local shop here in Welland JR's Outdoor Store for reels, rods etc. because i've known him for 30+ years so I do understand your point about supporting the little guys in this case it just comes to my lack of time and him stocking everything I need.

I'm in need of some good waders myself, I keep buying cheap ones and I keep wrecking them in no time at all. I do a lot of very rough trekking and would be extremely upset if I invested in a good set just to wreak them too. Any suggestions on waders that would stand up to the sort of places I fish would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea what each person uses wader wise but i have a set of the basic bare neoprenes- now the only reason in mentioning if that ive had them for 5 years this year, im not the easiest person on my equipment and believe that you dont always have to buy the most expensive
Id suggest bare if you want to go neoprene. For a breathable i have no idea as im looking at some for the fall myself and cant comment. I do know that the store on woodlawn road in guelph Kingsway have frogg toggs breathable- have heard bad reports have heard good reports but then the same also applies to simms-
boot wise i still have the argument with my buddies- felt sole or rubber. seeing as i like to be different i went last fall and bought the chota rock loc with the studded rubber sold- I will never look at felt again. I have no problems in the mud, snow, slippery banks, slimey rocks- nothing sticks to them the way it does with the felt- again i just changed last year- thats 4 years i had my old chotas
thats my input hope it helps
